How to share a screenshot as a link on Mac

macOS has no screenshot link of its own: you save the file to iCloud Drive and share it from Finder. With SimpleShot it is one click: press Link on the thumbnail after a capture, and a link like getsimpleshot.com/s/… is on your clipboard at once, ready to paste, while the image uploads behind it. Delete the link and the image is gone for everyone.

Share a screenshot link with SimpleShot

  1. Take a screenshot (⇧⌘4) or a recording. Mark it up or cover private details first if you need to.
  2. Point at the thumbnail in the corner and click Link.
  3. Paste the link into a chat, an e-mail or a ticket with ⌘V. Messengers show a preview of the image.
  4. To take it back, delete the link in the Library (Links filter): it stops working at that moment.

What is uploaded, and what isn’t

Ten links at a time are free, and they are never deleted to make room; each invited friend adds five more. SimpleShot Premium ($3 a month or $24 a year) makes links unlimited and adds passwords, end dates, view counts and longer videos by link, up to 15 minutes.

Without an app: iCloud Drive

  1. Save the screenshot into iCloud Drive (drag it into iCloud Drive in Finder).
  2. Right-click it, choose Share, and pick the option to copy a link or to share with people.
  3. Paste the link. It works only while the file stays in iCloud Drive and sharing is on.

Questions

How do I send a screenshot as a link?

In SimpleShot, click Link on the thumbnail and paste. Without an app, put the file in iCloud Drive and share it from Finder.

Who can open my screenshot link?

Anyone who has the link. That is why SimpleShot uploads only the capture you chose, strips its metadata, and lets you delete the link at any time. With Premium, a link can have a password and an end date.

How do I delete a shared screenshot?

Delete its link in SimpleShot’s Library. The image is removed at once, and the link stops working.

Can I share a screen recording as a link?

Yes, the same way: press Link on the recording’s thumbnail. Premium allows videos up to 15 minutes by link.
