Free tool · in your browser
Redact a screenshot.
Nothing leaves your device.
Open a screenshot, drag over what must stay private and export it. The covered pixels are replaced with solid colour, not blurred, so nothing of the original can be recovered from the file.
Three steps
Private in a minute.
The image stays in this browser tab: no upload, no account, nothing stored.
Open the screenshot.
Choose Open, paste it with ⌘V or drop the file on the editor.
Cover the details.
Secure Redact is already chosen: drag a box over each e-mail, name, card number or key. Undo takes a box back.
Export.
Choose Export and save a PNG or JPEG. In the file, the covered pixels are solid colour.
Why not blur
Blur hides. Redact removes.
Blurred and pixelated text can sometimes be read back, especially short numbers. Secure Redact writes solid pixels over the area in the exported file, so there is nothing left to read.
A few things to know
Good questions.
Is my screenshot uploaded?
No. The editor runs in your browser; the image you open never leaves your device, and it is gone when you close the page.
Can the redaction be undone in the exported file?
No. Undo works while you edit. In the exported file the covered pixels are replaced with solid colour, and the original pixels are not kept in it.
Is blurring a screenshot safe enough?
Not for secrets. Blur and pixelate are visual effects: short numbers and text can sometimes be guessed back. Use Secure Redact for anything private.
Can it find private details by itself?
In the SimpleShot Mac app, yes: Hide Sensitive Data reads the capture on your Mac and covers e-mails, phone and card numbers, IBANs and keys in one click. This browser tool can’t read the text of your image, so you choose the areas.
